Position: Modelmaker (Part-Time Temporary or Permanent)

Pay is hourly and is commensurate with experience. We have a strict policy against unpaid interns. 6-10 hours a week. Hours are flexible and can work around your school schedule however you must come into the office to work.
Job Summary:
We are looking for a motivated architecture and design student to join our team as Model Maker. We are looking for someone with experience in both traditional model-making techniques using basswood, museum foam, and digital fabrication methods such as 3D modeling and 3D printing. The Modelmaker will create models that help visualize design concepts and support project presentations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build architectural models using a combination of traditional materials like basswood and modern tools such as 3D printers.
- Work closely with architects and designers to translate design concepts into physical and digital models.
- Support the team by developing 3D models using software like Rhino, SketchUp, AutoCAD, or Revit to prepare designs for model-making and 3D printing.
- Operate and maintain 3D printers to produce parts for architectural models.
- Handcraft physical models from basswood, foam board, and other materials, focusing on craftsmanship, precision, and detail.
- Participate in model assembly for client presentations and internal reviews, ensuring the models meet project specifications.
- Work under supervision to adjust models based on feedback and evolving project requirements.
- Help maintain the model-making studio, tools, and equipment to ensure an organized and safe workspace.
- Stay curious and open to learning about new model-making techniques and digital fabrication technologies.
Qualifications:
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in architecture, industrial design, or a related field.
- 3D modeling software such as Rhino, SketchUp, AutoCAD, or Revit
- 3D printing
- Comfortable working with hand tools and model-making materials like basswood, foam board, museum board, or acrylic.
- Good eye for detail, with a desire to improve craftsmanship and precision in physical models.
- Strong interest in architectural design and enthusiasm for learning the model-making process.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team and take direction from senior staff.
Preferred (but not required) Skills:
- Experience with laser cutting or CNC machines (through classwork or personal projects).
- Basic understanding of scale, proportion, and design concepts in architecture.
