Position Summary
At Stony Brook Medicine, a Registered Pharmacy Technician is a valuable member of our team who, under the direct personal supervision of a licensed Pharmacist, assists in compounding, preparing, labeling, and/or dispensing of drugs used to fill valid prescriptions or medication orders or in compounding, preparing, and labeling in anticipation of a valid prescription or medication order for a patient to be served by the facility, where such tasks require no professional judgement. The Registered Pharmacy Technician may also assist the Pharmacist with medication dispensing including transferrng oral doses of medication from one container to another, medication transport and delivery, and inventory management. Qualified candidates will demonstrate superior communication and organization skills while adhering to our high standard of excellence.
Duties of a Registered Pharmacy Technician may include but are not limited to the following:
Under the direct personal supervision of a licensed Pharmacist:
- Batch-manufacture parenteral solutions using aseptic technique.
- Prepare sterile products, both hazardous and non-hazardous, for dispensing to patients of the facility.
- Assist in compounding oral dosage forms for patients.
Under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist:
- Deliver medication to patient care areas.
- Restock the dispensing areas of the Pharmacy; restock automated dispensing cabinets, including controlled drugs.
- Receive drug shipments into inventory, maintain appropriate levels of inventory in the work area and check for outdates.
- Complete patient care unit inspections.
- Repackage medications from bulk storage to individual unit-dose packages.
- Assist in labeling of medication in preparation for dispensing .
- Answer phone calls and route to the appropriate individual.
- Assist at the dispensing window.
- Process invoices; file inventory paperwork.
Qualifications
Required: Current valid NY State Registered Pharmacy Technician license and registration. Current valid Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or National Health career Association (NHA) Pharmacy Technician certification.
Preferred: One more more years of hospital Pharmacy Technician experience. Associate's degree or higher. Experience in sterile compounding.

Prior to start date, the selected candidate must meet the following requirements:
- Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services*
- Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
- Successfully complete a 4 panel drug screen*
- Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre employment screenings.
- Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).
Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.
*The hiring department will be responsible for any fee incurred for examination.

Anticipated Pay Range:
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $42,330 - $47,671 / year.
The above salary range (or hiring range) represents SBUH's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
In addition, all UUP positions have an additional $3,087 for location,
