Job Summary
Utah Reads employees tutor elementary school students who are reading below grade-level, working with the same children twice a week in 45-minute tutoring sessions. Tutors may also work under the supervision of a teacher to assist groups of children in completing tasks such as homework and independent reading.

About Glendale-Mountain View Community Learning Center:
- At the Glendale CLC , Utah Reads tutors supervise student groups on homework help and other activities. This is a great site for those who prefer to tutor in a group setting and are comfortable working with different student ages/grade levels. Tutors at the CLC will develop lesson plans for their small group and will be responsible for implementing their lessons, facilitating positive group dynamics, and providing a positive experience for CLC students.

Responsibilities

Attend required trainings and orientation: New tutors must attend all required trainings and orientations. All trainings will be paid.

Tutors must provide their own transportation to and from their assigned school site.

Tutors set their own regular weekly schedules within the available tutoring hours of the partnering site. Tutors must commit to work at least 4 hours per week on at least 2 days of the week and cannot exceed 19 hours per week. Tutors must be available Friday afternoons 2:00pm-5:30pm for orientation, trainings, and any site meetings.

Consistent, ongoing support is crucial for the community partners Utah Reads works with. Tutors are asked to commit to working with Utah Reads for at least one school year. The exception to this is if you will be graduating mid-year.

Tutors are expected to comply with all of the rules of their work site. Conduct guidelines may include site rules, dress code, safety procedures, etc.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are required.
The incumbent will be required to pass a Bureau of Criminal Investigation ( BCI ) Background check
