Team or Function Overview
The Shipping Supervisor is directly responsible for overseeing the shipping and warehouse operations, as well as managing personnel. This role involves ensuring excellence in executing and controlling all assigned shipping and warehousing tasks. The incumbent will ensure that Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are strictly followed in the handling and storage of all materials, including finished goods, raw materials, and equipment. Additionally, the Shipping Supervisor will provide the necessary training and certifications for lift truck operators. This position also includes maintaining the general housekeeping of the warehouse, assigning tasks as needed to ensure a safe, clean, and orderly environment.
Summary
The Shipping Supervisor is responsible for the overall management and supervision of the shipping and warehouse operations. This role involves direct supervision of shipping personnel and ensuring the efficient and safe operation of daily activities. Key responsibilities include managing safety protocols, overseeing daily operations, maintaining equipment, coordinating scheduling, and optimizing inventory space. The Shipping Supervisor also ensures that quality standards are met and that miscellaneous supply items are managed effectively. This position holds overall responsibility for the successful execution of all shipping and warehouse functions, contributing to the seamless flow of goods and materials within the organization.
Essential Duties
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Plan and Direct Operations: Oversee daily and weekly activities of the shipping and warehouse functions, including receiving, to meet safety goals, service metrics, budget compliance, and service reliability targets.

Manage Inbound and Outbound Shipping: Supervise all inbound and outbound shipping activities, ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures and identifying areas for improvement.

Inventory Management: Oversee inventory control, ensuring accurate counts, proper storage and rotation (FIFO), and resolving any discrepancies.

Labor Management: Schedule and assign work hours for shipping and receiving personnel to optimize operating costs while meeting customer and carrier needs.

Safety and Compliance: Develop and enforce safe work practices, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory standards, including OSHA.

Training and Development: Provide ongoing training to shipping employees on safety, standard operating procedures, and quality standards.

EquipmentandMaintenanceOversight: Ensure all equipment inspections are conducted, schedule necessary maintenance, and monitor forklift usage to maximize efficiency.

Physical Demands

Regularly required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, with occasional lifting or moving of up to 50 pounds.

Must be able to climb ladders and stairs.

Specific vision requirements include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Frequent sitting, walking, and standing, with occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and balancing.

Must be able to operate a forklift, which involves prolonged sitting and the use of arms and legs to control the brakes, steering wheel, and other controls.

Must have the ability to communicate effectively both orally and aurally, including through the use of automated devices such as telephones.

Bachelor Degree.

Minimum 5 years of experience in a high volume distribution environment

Strongleadershipandteammanagementabilities,withaproventrackrecordof effectively managing teams in a fast-paced environment.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with various levels of the organization and external partners.

Experience with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software, such as PeopleSoft or SAP.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues, develop solutions, and implement changes effectively.

Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as necessary to meet operational demands.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with varying temperatures and noise levels typical of a warehouse setting.

Ability to think critically and make decisions quickly in a dynamic environment.

Previous supervisory/management experience preferred.
