Overview

We searching for a self-motivated and detail-oriented artist to join our team as a perfume lab apprentice. In this role, you will play a crucial part in the development and production of fragrances at a locally-owned Brooklyn-based fragrance house. The ideal candidate has a deep interest in the art and science of perfumery, a flexible schedule, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work independently on multiple projects.

You’ll learn the various aspects of running a successful fragrance house including a knowledge of raw perfumer materials, key accords, commercial perfume formulas, branding, design, packaging and running an e-commerce business.

Responsibilities

1. **Lab Operations:**

Assist in the day-to-day operations of the fragrance laboratory, ensuring cleanliness, organization, and adherence to safety protocols.
Prepare and maintain stock solutions, raw materials, and equipment required for fragrance development.

2. **Formulation Assistance:**

Work closely with the senior perfumer and clients to assist in the formulation of new fragrances.
Accurately measure and weigh fragrance ingredients, following specified formulas and guidelines.
Document all steps and variations in the formulation process for future reference.

3. **Quality Control:**

Conduct quality control tests on fragrance samples to ensure they meet the company's standards for consistency and stability.
Assist in the analysis and evaluation of raw materials to ensure their quality and suitability for use in fragrance formulations.

4. **Production Assistance**

Assist perfumer during large, multistep production runs involving light industrial machinery.
Troubleshoot issues during production runs and maintain equipment
Bottle and package finished fragrances

4. **Research and Development:**

Stay updated on industry trends, new ingredients, and emerging technologies in the field of perfumery.
Collaborate with the perfumer to explore innovative fragrance concepts and contribute to the development of unique and marketable scents.

5. **Inventory Management:**

Monitor and manage inventory levels of raw materials and finished fragrance products.
Place orders for necessary supplies, ensuring that stock is maintained at appropriate levels.

6. **Documentation and Reporting:**

Maintain accurate and detailed records of all experiments, formulations, and test results.
Label all fragrance formulations according to established naming protocol and prepare samples for evaluation by head perfumer.

7. **Order Fulfillment**

Handle fulfillment of e-commerce orders, print shipping labels, package fragrances and drop off ready-to ship packages at mail-pickup location.

Skills and Experience

High School Diploma or equivalent (preferred)
Education in chemistry, biology, perfumery or related fields (preferred)
Experience in a laboratory setting or in the fragrance or cosmetics industry (preferred)
Knowledge of basic perfumery principles and fragrance raw materials (preferred)
Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills (required)
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment (required)
Good communication skills, both written and verbal (required)
Driver’s license and ability to drive a vehicle (preferred)
Proficient in Google Sheets and Microsoft Excel (required)

Compensation

$16/hr +Access to our Library of Materials for Education and Experimentation
Flexible Schedule - 2 Half Days per Week (total 10-12 Hours per week)
In-person at our laboratory in Bushwick, Brooklyn
Training in perfumery concepts and methods from the FUME perfumer
