Position Title: Digital Archives and Content Intern

Location: In-Person (PES FUTURES, 128 Baxter St, New York, NY, 10013)

Time Commitment: 10-15 hours per week

Duration: 10 weeks

Compensation: Unpaid (For Credit Only)

Project for Empty Space (PES) is seeking Digital Archives and Creative Content Intern to support the BODY FREEDOM FOR EVERY(BODY) project. This intern will assist in the development and collection of artist/project-specific materials for the BODY FREEDOM FOR EVERY(BODY) Archive, with a focus on increasing access to marginalized perspectives and visibility of the project to the communities. Responsibilities include proofreading copy, uploading artist profiles and information to the project website, and contributing to content creation on TikTok and Instagram. In the second half of the internship, the interns will play a larger role in crafting social media text and curating posts to amplify the project's mission. They will concurrently support the collection of materials for the digital archive, crafting accessible text, image descriptions, and informational text. They will work alongside the Project for Empty Space team to learn how to craft copy for exhibition materials. Interns will be mentored directly by the Project for Empty Space Curatorial Team. This hands-on mentorship will ensure interns receive continual guidance and professional insight throughout their internship, fostering a rich learning environment. The curatorial team will provide regular feedback sessions, oversee project development, and involve the intern in critical curatorial practices.

During the internship, the interns will acquire specific skills critical to their professional growth in the arts sector, including:

Curatorial practice and exhibition planning.
Arts administration and project coordination within a nonprofit setting.
Engagement strategies for community outreach and audience development.
Digital content creation and management pertinent to public art exhibitions and projects.

The intern’s responsibilities are designed to enhance their professional development. Tasks will be closely aligned with ongoing projects at Project for Empty Space, providing the intern with practical experience in developing archives, learning more about contemporary art/artists, and supporting the team's documentation and community outreach. Most importantly, the interns will further their understandings on how to conceptualize, develop, and implement exhibitions, providing a comprehensive foundation for curatorial and social practice work.

Duration: The internship will be conducted over a specific period of 10 weeks.

Responsibilities:

Support the collection and organization of materials for the BODY FREEDOM FOR EVERY(BODY) Archive and Digital Community Space..
Proofread and upload artist profiles, project information, and other materials to the website.
Assist in the management and execution of social media content on TikTok and Instagram.
Develop and refine social media posts to promote artist work and exhibition-related themes.
Contribute to developing a digital content calendar and executing campaigns.
Collaborate with team members on cross-departmental projects.
Attend exhibitions/programs/special events and capture content for social media.

Desired Qualifications:

Currently pursuing a degree program and eligible to participate in a FOR-CREDIT internship.
Experience in storytelling, photo/video, design, social media (Required).
Strong attention to detail, particularly in proofreading and content organization with an interest in social justice..
Experience or interest in the intersection of archives and the digital landscape.
Familiarity with digital content tools such such as the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, etc).
Ability to work independently and collaborate within a team setting.
