In addition, the Alvarez conservation studio is distinct in that it also offers its conservation clients framing services including frame fitting, mat cutting, glazing, packing and shipping for both local and long distance transport.

Alvarez Conservation Services is seeking an experienced and talented person to fill a unique and dynamic opportunity in a part-time position as a frame fitter/studio assistant for immediate hire for its New York office. Salary and benefits based on experience.

Responsibilities:

The applicant must have at least 2-3 years of archival framing experience as well as handling artworks on paper. They must have knowledge of archival hinging techniques and materials, fitting high-end and valuable art on paper into antique and new frames, cutting new rag mats and mounts, cutting and fitting spacers/fillets, cutting a variety of glass and plexi, as well as be responsible for packing art for both local and long distance transport.

The applicant will also be directly involved and assist in managing the registration and release of works on paper for conservation including; documentation, condition assessments, and tracking of items using the in-studio FileMaker database. In addition, the ideal candidate will monitor the studio's inventory of supplies/equipment and coordinate restocking as needed.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in arts related field.
Proven experience working in a arts related environment; frame shop, conservation studio, archive, museum, auction house or gallery, with a focus on works on paper preferred.
Strong knowledge of archival framing principles and practices, including archival hinging and techniques and materials used for paper-based artworks.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to accurately document and track the condition, treatment, and location of artworks and documents.
Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact professionally with clients, colleagues, and external partners.
Experience with FileMaker, Photoshop, and Apple computers preferred
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a flexible and adaptable approach to managing multiple projects and deadlines
Knowledge of art handling and packing standards, as well as shipping procedures for transporting delicate materials.
