Freelance Fashion Assistant, Elle

ELLE US is looking for an organized and motivated Freelance Fashion Assistant (6-month contract) to join their tight-knit market team, covering fashion and accessories, beginning in January 2025. The ideal candidate is upbeat and efficient with impeccable taste and strong attention to detail.

What you'll do:

• Assist the Market Director and Accessories Market Editor in organizing and keeping track of items called in for photo shoots, requesting and filing hi-res imagery, and other tasks as needed.

• Sample trafficking for photoshoots: celebrity, cover, beauty, fashion, accessories and jewelry.

• Organize messengers and create shipping labels and track accordingly.

• Communicate via email with in-house and PR representatives to facilitate confirmations and logistics of samples for shoots.

• Create boards using Google Slides and Adobe Bridge to keep track of confirmed samples.

• Checking samples in and out of the fashion closet and keeping track of sample location at all time.

• Work with other fashion assistants to maintain the fashion closet, organize run-throughs, pack wardrobe, and handle sample logistics.

• Handle letters of responsibility for high-value jewelry and other sample loans.

• Occasionally go on runs for urgent sample needs.

• Occasionally assist on photo shoot sets.

• Occasionally contribute to SEO posts for ELLE.com.

What we’re looking for:

• Can work as a member of a small team and individually -- looking for someone who is a self-starter, proactively keeps up with a To Do list and knows how to prioritize tasks, and can directly assist editors when needed.

• Extremely organized, attentive to detail, with a positive attitude. Willing to ask questions and learn quickly in a fast-paced environment.

• Comfortable and able to be in-office when needed to coordinate samples and pack for photoshoots as well as assist on-set from time to time. Also able to successfully work from home with a stable internet connection.

• Comfortable working with minimal but required technology – internal server, Google Drive, Excel, Adobe, among other software systems.

• Understanding of fashion trends and eye to compile seasonally.

• Previous experience and interest in writing about fashion news and style content for online.

• Managing calendar for various staff members; including, depending on time of year, fashion week schedules.

• Discretion is incredibly important in this job, so you must know how to navigate communications, fittings, personal editor loans, etc.

Who you are:

• You have at least six months to a year of experience working in a fashion closet, a PR agency, with a stylist, or in a similar fashion internship. Relevant retail experience will also be considered.

• You have a strong interest in fashion and are enthusiastic about working in the industry even in non-glamorous settings.

• You function well in a fast-paced environment and have a strong administrative background.

• You have a good attitude, are open-minded and have top notch organization skills.

• You must be available to be in our Manhattan-based office at least 4 times a week, from 9:30 AM until 5:30 PM, sometimes later as needed.

• We are not accepting student applicants at this time. Must have Bachelors or Associates degree.

• Must be based in NYC and eligible to work in the US.

The estimated rate for this role is $17 per hour, with eligibility for overtime. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
