Jane Lombard Gallery is currently seeking a seasoned Registrar to join our team. Responsibilities include overseeing the physical care of artworks, managing inventory records, coordinating exhibition preparations, and facilitating domestic and international shipments and museum loans. The ideal candidate will have exceptional attention to detail and an understanding of art materials.

Qualifications

BA, MA, or MFA in art history, studio art, museum studies, or related field required
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a similar role at an art gallery, museum, major shipping company, or equivalent arts institution
Extensive experience with domestic and international art shipping and customs regulation
Proficiency with Artlogic, Microsoft Office and Google Drive. Mac proficiency.
Positive, self-motivated, team player
Understanding of industry standards for the handling, packing, shipping, and conservation of contemporary art
Excellent phone and email demeanor
Highly organized, punctual, and detail-oriented
Strong ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and create clear and organized schedules
Must be able to handle multiple tasks and projects in a fast-paced environment

Inventory Management

Create and maintain artwork records
Update artwork records with locations, transportation history,
provenance and exhibition history.
Log all framing and production details; attach all documents to inventory record
Conduct condition reports on all incoming and outgoing artwork
Oversee the physical care, storage, and handling of artworks, ensuring best practices and preventative measures are in place

Exhibitions

Collaborate with the Director to plan and create checklists for exhibitions
Anticipate and assess exhibition needs, coordinating with the Director and Preparator for installation and de-installation requirements
Ensure artwork arrives at the gallery by specified deadlines
Assist the Director in managing domestic and international museum loans

Shipping

Arrange for the safe transportation of artworks to and from the gallery, our storage facility, art fairs, clients, and loan destinations
Create shipping and proforma invoices
Obtain shipping costs and estimates, thorough knowledge of customs laws and regulations
Advise clients on packing and shipping; provide installation instructions
Coordinate crating and shipping to and from lenders, consignors/consignees, artist studios, storage spaces, and museum and exhibition loans including international institutions
Maintain and develop a strong vendor network; ability to negotiate best pricing and ensure invoices are in line with estimates; facilitate smooth and timely deliveries

Full time, M-F in the gallery and/or offsite storage

Jane Lombard Gallery was founded in New York in 1995 as Lombard-Freid Projects. Currently located in TriBeCa, the gallery has maintained its commitment to the work of emerging, mid-career, and established contemporary artists working across media and disciplines. The gallery continues to showcase an international roster of artists who tend toward cultural commentary and the exploration of contemporary socio-political climates.
