Overview
the Environmental Care Technician (Housekeeper) is responsible for the cleanliness, routine care, terminal cleaning, and maintenance of the inpatient units’ floor and rooms. This important position supports various health care practitioners as well as patients. Therefore, assisting in maintaining a safe work environment and providing excellent service in a friendly and cooperative manner is essential. This individual works in the hospital environment and is often exposed to cleaning chemicals, dust, bodily fluids and red bag waste to include needles and syringes. This staff member is an essential employee and is expected to report to work during weather emergencies.
Responsibilities

Perform daily occupied and discharge/transfer cleaning and disinfect patient rooms and common areas. Dust furniture, lights, vents, cabinets, windowsills and blinds. Wash window and mirrors, wipe down walls and fixtures. Report observed repairs including broken or cracked windowpanes, leaky faucets and toilets, loose tiles, broken blinds and damaged furniture.

Clean and disinfect bathroom fixtures, counters, walls and shower areas according to established procedures. Wipe down all hard surfaces. Clean facility restrooms.

Dry mop, sweep, and wet mop floors. Clean emergency spills observed or upon request.

Collect and remove all trash. Dispose of trash and waste according to established procedures.

Disinfect and maintains cleanliness of common areas including nurses’ station, break rooms, conference room and other facility areas as required. Ensure common areas, floors, rooms and hallways are clean and free of debris, water, bodily fluids and obstacles providing a safe working environment.

Clean and disinfect discharge rooms to make them ready for patients’ admission. Perform other duties as assigned including implementations of enhance infection control procedures.

Clean equipment and furniture to include beds and cribs.

Make germicidal solution per formula.

Follow OSHA Blood Borne Pathogen Safety Standards. Comply with Institutes Infection Prevention practices.

Maintain cleaning cart(s), supplies and equipment evidence by properly stocking and restocking environmental services cart in a neat and orderly fashion.

Keep janitor’s room neat and orderly and report supply orders to manager.

Attend meeting and/or training sessions as required.
Qualifications
EDUCATION:
High school diploma or GED is required.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum one year of routine floor care experience is required.
