Senior Director Analyst, U.S. Federal Government, IT Modernization and Digital Transformation
Gartner is seeking a U.S.-based analyst who will provide actionable advice to U.S. federal government CIOs and other technology executives on their key IT modernization and digital transformation priorities.
Successful candidates will need a general understanding of the U.S. federal government mission, services, strategic plans, IT policies and initiatives, and suppliers of technology products and services.
About This Role:
Gartner Analysts are industry thought leaders who create must-have research, market predictions and best practices for a broad range of world-leading organizations. A Senior Director serves as a leader within Gartner's Research and Advisory business, establishing oneself as a credible voice within their designated market at local, regional, and/or global levels. Using exceptional research and analytical skills, a Senior Director plays a significant role in producing pragmatic and provocative research which Gartner clients consume and apply to mission critical priorities. They are a trusted source of advice for clients, reinforcing Gartner's value every day. They engage via in-person meetings, virtual meetings, sales support visits and Gartner conferences to discuss complex client challenges and offer appropriate recommendations.
This analyst role sits within Gartner's CIO and Industries Research, Government and Education Practice. The analyst will support CIOs and other technology executives in their IT modernization and digital transformation initiatives.
What You Will Do
- Deliver high-quality actionable advice to US federal government executive clients (e.g., CIOs, Chief AI Officers, CTOs, program executives, etc.) through a variety of media.
- Write evidence-based content that is easily consumed, defensible and actionable.
- Leveraging Gartner research content and insights, create and deliver presentations for webinars, executive briefings and other client-facing events.
- Build credibility as a U.S. federal market expert representing Gartner Research and Advisory.
- Deliver outstanding sales and service support to retain and grow the Gartner business.
- Actively participate in ideation and research community discussions and collaborate effectively with colleagues across our research community.
- Identify research process improvements or develop new processes that help the team and Research & Advisory provide excellent service delivery.
- Be a mentor and a coach by supporting more junior team members
- In collaboration with other analysts and primary and secondary researchers:
- Track and anticipate U.S. federal government technology directions, objectives, and IT service delivery and operational priorities
- Monitor IT vendors, partners, suppliers and procurement trends, with focus on technologies that help accelerate IT modernization and digital transformation initiatives.
What You Will Need
- 12+ years of relevant IT and/or program executive leadership working for or with US federal government, including its ecosystem of partners, IT vendors and contractors
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; Graduate degree preferred
- Understanding of the strategic and/or IT operational challenges facing U.S. federal government
- Demonstrated executive presence; can immediately establish credibility with IT executives and other agency stakeholders
- lT leadership, consulting, and/or research and advisory experience in U.S. federal government in two or more of the following areas:
- IT strategic planning
- IT governance
- IT strategic portfolio management
- IT infrastructure and/or applications modernization (e.g., ERP, cloud services migration)
- Customer experience
- Digital government transformation strategy development
- IT products and services acquisition, including performance-based contracting
- Multi-sourced IT service delivery model and managed services
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work under tight deadlines
- Strong written and verbal proficiency, analytical and presentation skills
- Ability to engage clients and respond effectively to questions
- Proficient in analyzing and synthesizing data; can effectively apply patterns and frameworks while drawing and defending conclusions to client challenges
- Strong communication skills to explain complex concepts concisely and simply
- Comfort presenting at large and small-scale speaking engagements
- Strong business and financial acumen
- Ability to work independently, while also being intrinsically motivated to collaborate across teams and support the workflow of others, in a multicultural global team
- Learning agility and adeptness with navigating highly matrixed environments
- Ability to represent Gartner's research methodology and strategies effectively at all levels.

Gartner believes in fair and equitable pay. A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role is 150,000 USD - 190,000 USD. Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range, or be above or below the range, based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, experience, professional achievement, business need, and location. In addition to base salary, employees will participate in either an annual bonus plan based on company and individual performance, or a role-based, uncapped sales incentive plan.
