The Role & Purpose
The Associate Art Director will be responsible for producing and directing creative assets with a focus but not limited to Madewell’s E-commerce photoshoots. The candidate will be responsible for delivery and execution of on-brand, market leading imagery that both inspires in terms of creative execution and adheres to seasonal E-commerce creative direction and guidelines.
Applicants must have solid understanding and experience leading studio-based photoshoots. They are willing to drive creative output and elevate the on-set Art Direction for E-commerce in addition to other creative initiatives.
In partnership with the Senior Art Director and Styling Director, this candidate will work collaboratively across E-commerce, Site Merchandising and Styling. They are fast to learn what works for our customer and how to target new audiences as required. The candidate much have sophisticated taste and understanding of current trends in the photography, editorial and fashion world.
The Associate Art Director will work closely alongside an in-house team of stylists, art directors and producers. This role will report into the Senior Art Director.
Responsibilities:
- Lead on-set art direction for E-commerce photoshoots and other creative initiatives.
- Setting and maintaining elevated visual standards. Continue to enhance the tone and aesthetics across E-commerce imagery.
- Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to work in cooperation with internal creative team and external partners.
- Detail oriented ensuring lighting and tonal consistency is achieved.
- Ensure photoshoots run smoothly and efficiently while maximizing on productivity.
- Collaborate with Senior Art Director to support on the creation of seasonal guidelines for on-figure and lay-down product photography.
- Weekly site quality control reviews to ensure brand standards are met.
- Excellent organizational, time management and interpersonal skills is a must.
Requirements:
- 4-6+ years of studio art direction experience.
- BA or BFA preferred in Arts, Fine Arts or Graphic Design.
- Deep knowledge in on-figure site photography, motion and studio creative.
- Experience in directing photoshoot teams in an e-commerce environment.
- Operates with an elevated taste level and of current industry related trends.
- Goal oriented, with demonstrated history of managing fast-paced environments.
- Strong creative problem solving and strategic-thinking skills.
- Must have a portfolio with relevant work examples.

Salary Range: $120,800.00 - $151,000.00

The base salary offered will take into account internal equity and may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region of work premises, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
