The Church, a multidisciplinary art center and artist residency located in Sag Harbor New York, seeks an Operations Manager. We are not a religious organization! Rather, we are a 501c3 org named for the iconic building that we occupy: a beautifully restored 19th Century Methodist church located in the heart of an historic village. Founded by two artists, Eric Fischl and April Gornik, we opened in April 2021. Our programming and exhibitions generally span contemporary and current artists and activities.
The Operations Manager will help manage our organization's day-to-day activities. Well-suited candidates have a solid background in operations, administration, and/ or project management, preferably in the visual or performing arts. A proven track record of process improvement and effective leadership is key, and passion and dedication to the art community, particularly here on the East End, is helpful. The Operations Manager reports to and works with the Executive Director to fulfill the organization’s mission and will communicate effectively with her, providing in a timely and accurate manner all information necessary to function properly and cover all responsibilities of organizational care and management.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work with the Executive Director to execute and streamline the overall operations of the organization, ensuring seamless and efficient execution.
- Analyze and create data, including financial reports, to identify areas for improvement and develop strategies for sustained activities and satisfaction.
- Be a liaison to a team of employees, providing guidance and support to ensure effective performance and team success.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including programming, workshops, education, outreach and development.
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and/or innovate new ways to execute our programs and mission.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with vendors, suppliers, and other stakeholders to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of goods and services.
- Ensure compliance across all aspects of the organization.
-Be attuned to the demands of the physical site - which includes our main building (c. 13,000 sq feet) and our residency home (4 blocks away, c. 2000 sq feet).
-Knowledge of and experience with small upstarts or new endeavors.
QUALIFICATIONS & CHARACTER
-Bachelor's degree or equivalent job experience
-Thorough working knowledge of budgets and finance; QuickBooks experience preferred
-Preference for working on a small team (fewer than 10 employees)
-Broad understanding of arts organizational activities and execution strongly preferred
-A mind and passion for translating strategy into action & execution
-Prior experience in the NFP extremely helpful.

ACCESSIBILITY

-Desk work, typically involving a computer (keyboard, mouse, phone et al), for large periods
