A contemporary art gallery is looking for a hands-on gallery assistant/registrar. It is a role for an administrator with existing art gallery or museum experience that will allow you to grow with the gallery and to play a significant role in its operations.
The assistant would be fulfilling the following tasks:
- create check lists, PDFs, mailings, sales materials, press releases and inventory lists, manage client base. Administration is in the core of this role, so attention to detail is key.
- edit images in Photoshop and InDesign and create invites, wall signs and other visuals. The knowledge of this software is important.
- manage website, Artsy, Seesaw and other online platforms
- greet visitors and act as the first point of contact for the gallery. Polished demeanor necessary.
- liaise with artists, photographer, coordinate shipments and occasionally manage art handlers during installations
- assist with organizing openings and events, so occasionally staying after hours
- perform other administrative and registrarial tasks as needed
Requirements:
Experience working for a contemporary art gallery or museum required
Knowledge of Google Suite, Office Suite, Adobe Suite and Photoshop required. If you have experience in designing exhibition brochures and art fair booths – a huge plus
Art writing and editing skills or at least just solid writing skills needed
Solid organization skills and acute attention to detail are a must
Strong people skills as this would be a public facing role
Familiarity with local and international art shipping practices, packing, crating and installation, experience in stretching canvases - all of it or some is a plus
Degree in art or art history preferred
Positive and proactive attitude and mature approach to challenges required
