Job Summary:

Under the general direction of the Production Director, the

Technical Director is responsible for overseeing technical theater

operations and for in-house production at the Jacques d’Amboise

Center for Learning and the Arts (JdA Center), as well as outside

venues and ancillary spaces, including performances which are a

part of the In School Program (ISP). This position is responsible

for operation and maintenance of 150 seat black box theater and its

support spaces, and equipment maintenance and acquisition for all

NDI programs requiring technical support at the JdA Center and

outside venues. Technical Director coordinates with Rehearsal Stage

Manager/Production Assistant and Facilities Director as relates to

use and support of the theater, studios and support spaces, and the

Production Coordinator for the In-School Program as relates to

equipment.

Responsibilities:

Oversee the acquisition, repair, and upkeep of production systems,
equipment needed for sound, lights, video, including rentals as
needed for all NDI programs
In collaboration with Production Manager, work with vendors for
production related equipment and services
Oversee implementation and upkeep of lighting plot in the theater,
including networking, circuiting, and dimming, and related drawings
and paperwork
Oversee audio support of live band and playback in theater, studios
and support spaces
Oversee load in / out of events including hiring of over hire
production crew
Oversee light rigging in theater
Oversee projection equipment and related systems
Collaborate with the Production Director the planning and
implementation of production plans for all NDI events
Collaborate with Production Coordinator of In-School Programs to
managing inventory and maintenance of equipment to support
production needs for in-school performances.
Provide light audio, video and/or lighting support for NDI Center
showings and workshops
Lead annual maintenance of theater and support spaces
Manage off site storage facility in collaboration with Facilities
Director
Engage and oversee all trucking and transportation of equipment for
all NDI events
Collaborate with Production Direction on production related
budgeting for the organization
Collaborate with Production Director and Rehearsal Stage Manager on
production calendar for the organization

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree required, with 6+ years professional experience
in similar positions, or the equivalent in relevant work
experience
Thorough understanding of all aspects involved in technical
theater, including construction, lighting equipment, rigging and
sound.
Working knowledge of theatrical electrics, carpentry, audio, and
projection equipment
Excellent communication skills—written, oral and visual.
Strong organizational skills: calendar management, budget
management, project management.
Ability to work productively under time pressures and meet
deadlines.
Possess strong interpersonal skills using tact, patience and
courtesy.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (both Mac and PC)
Ability to read and understand technical drawings
Proficiency in production related software; Vectorworks, CAD,
Lightwright
Vendor contacts, and connections to a pool of theatrical
technicians
Valid driver’s license

Physical requirements:

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds

• Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time including

manoeuvring up and down ladders and stairs

Work Hours:

This position is hybrid, part-time / seasonal with peak work

periods November, December, February, April – August. Event

schedules requiring Technical Director’s on-site support may be 12+

hours in a day. Available to work nights, weekends and holidays

depending on project demands. Schedule is set by Production

Director.
