About Dieu Donné

Dieu Donné is the leading nonprofit cultural institution dedicated to serving emerging and established artists through the collaborative creation of contemporary art using the process of hand papermaking. Since 1976, Dieu Donné has introduced artists to the vast potential of hand papermaking as an art medium through residencies, fellowships, exhibitions, workshops, artist talks, and publications. Works made at Dieu Donné are held in the collections of major museums, including The Getty Museum, MoMA, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Whitney Museum of Art, among others. Through extensive collaborations with Master Papermakers, artists from a wide variety of practices explore the creative possibilities of hand papermaking – fostering experimentation and producing innovative works of art.

2025 Studio Internships

Studio Interns will perform studio, administrative, and teaching assistant duties that relate directly to our residencies, artist collaborations, and education programming. Interns will learn the workings of a fully-equipped papermaking studio by working closely with our studio staff in a unique collaborative environment. Primary areas of responsibility in the studio include fiber preparation, set-up and organization of studios, and ongoing care of papermaking machinery, equipment, and supplies. Interns also assist with our education programs and public events, including working with adult and youth audiences, assisting with the scholarship administration process, and supporting in-person Open Houses and artist talks.

The ideal candidate has a strong interest in contemporary art, is detail-oriented and works well with their hands, can work independently on complex studio projects, has prior studio and art handling experience, excellent writing and oral communication skills, and is well-versed in Mac OS, Google Suite, and Adobe Creative Suite software applications.

Dieu Donné is hiring for two positions:

Jan - Sept 2025 (9 month internship designated for a candidate from a low-income background)
Late Mar - early Aug 2025 (4.5 month internship open to all candidates)

Both positions are part-time for 3 days/week, with some evening or weekend hours required. All interns are scheduled for full workdays (9:30 am - 5:00 pm)

The rate for this position is $16/hour. University or college credit requirements can be accommodated for participating institutions.

General Requirements

Commitment of 3 days/week (9:30 am - 5:00 pm) for the full internship period. Some weekend or evening hours, scheduled in advance, are required to assist classes and events. (Maximum of four weekends across the internship period)
Prior studio and art handling experience
Great interpersonal skills with ability to represent the studio in a friendly and professional manner
Highly motivated, able to work independently, detail-oriented, strong problem-solving skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Strong time management skills and ability to multitask
Comfortable within a casual but professional office and studio environment
Tech-savvy, well-versed in Mac OS, Google Suite, and Adobe Creative Suite applications preferred
Ability to lift 50 pounds. Fine motor skills necessary. Able to stand for extended periods

This position is grant-funded to support an individual from a low-income or economically disadvantaged background to gain professional and educational experience. This information will not be weighed in evaluating your application, but is required to ensure we are meeting grant obligations.

Please let us know if your university offers funding for internships. Dieu Donné may accept additional interns on a case-by-case basis as funding allows. Dieu Donné does not hire unpaid interns.

Compensation

Interns are paid $16/hr. Interns are scheduled for 3 days/week, 9:30 - 5:00 pm.
